First lesson: Being visible on social media earns you rewards!
We know from experience that social media is a full-time job. You don’t have to be active on it 24/7, but consistency is key in having your brand and your content stand out. Following the proper etiquette as a content creator and praticing good habits on social media will take you one step further to reaching your brand goals.
Luckily for you, we are here to help! So, let’s get started shall we?
7 Must-follow practices for good social Media etiquette:
1. Don’t leave your followers on read.
Part of social media etiquette is responding to comments on your social posts. We are not suggesting you respond to every comment, because let’s be honest, some are just worth a like. But, responding to one comment with another allows the conversation to keep going and a chance for more engagements to form on your post.
When you give a like to a positive comment you see, thanking them or hyping up their comment by agreeing or asking a question, may lead to a bigger discussion and for the commenter to tag other people to come into the conversation. Leading to, say it with us…more engagements!
Leaving a negative comment to sit there with no interaction allows for other people to see the comment and form an opinion. If you decide to respond to this negative comment with a positive twist, this will potentially lead to a better outcome. A potential new engagement coming across your post will see how you responded to fizzle out the comment, and that looks good on you as a brand representative.
Hold yourself and your brand accountable by responding to comments, DM’s and other engagements on your posts. Actively engaging will increase your following and build a better reputation for your brand.

2. Always credit others content.
Give credit where credit is due! When posting content made by another creator it is always proper to tag them in your post and provide credit to them in the caption. This show’s the creator that you admire their work, and it saves you from getting in trouble if you were to share their content and take credit for it as your own.
3. Share but don’t overshare.
Yes, there is such a thing as posting too much. Give your audience space to consume your content without being overwhelmed by the amount they need to keep up with. Find that sweet spot in your posting frequency and stick to it.
Hint: it will be around the point where your reach starts to drop off.
4. Be truthful.
Be honest with yourself and your followers. Don’t sign on for collaborations with brands you truly wouldn’t support or use in the real world. The more authentic you are, the more your audience will relate to you, which will reward your brand in the long run.
5. Go easy with the hashtags.
Too many hashtags is overkill. They can add noise, and distract from your post, resulting in your content losing its value real fast. #dont #post #hashtags #like #this. Be strategic! Click here for hashtag tips.
6. Share the love.
Love another account? Go ahead and promote it! Not everything needs to be a paid partnership. It will work in your favour to recommend things you like to your audience; they may just like it too and love you even more for the great recommendations. Plus, the account you shared on your Stories may just be grateful enough to do the same.
7. Utilize your brand voice.
The brand you have created for yourself is authentic because it is your original idea. Use your creativity to represent your brand in a way you want followers and your target audience to see it. Everyone has an opinion on social media, but you get to be the persuasive voice leading the conversation in your preferred direction. If you are genuine and honest in the messaging you want to get across, people should respond with grace. Then again, we can’t save you from all the haters out there, but we can try!
It’s important to practice social media etiquette, but do you need to be glued to your phone every second of the day? The answer is no. We know as content creators there needs to be a healthy balance of screen time. If you’re late to seeing a comment, no problem, at least you saw it and chose to engage with it. Better to be late and have a response then to see it and become a ghost.
